Moving →
I’m moving things over to my new site! Please visit it. I started this blog as a way to document a really weird stage in my life. I was so burned out and thought I wasn’t going to make any more music. Dumb, I know. But I started working on my Lazrus record and things just happened from there. Now, making tracks is like the only thing I do. So I wanted to make a new space for it and...

Year-end Love →
I’ve never met the Metro Times writer Chris Handyside, but I think it’s high time I got him drunk and picked up the tab. After being the most vocal supporter locally of my music this year, he followed up by putting Lazrus on his year-end best-of list. I’m honored. Check it. Oh, and this blog is about to get live because the next record is being worked on a lot. I promise to...

I’m going to get in trouble because I keep working on new music when I’m supposed to be doing other stuff. Today I’m putting checkmarks next to these songs in my notebook: Tammy, Tammy Zhivago Eyesite Up next: Phil Collinz and Commitment

Damn (I Wish I Was Your Lover) OUT TODAY →
I did this cover last summer, right before I really started working on my record. Making it lit some kind of spark in me. I wanted to put it out on BULBZ but Moodgadget talked me into leaving it for the new Ghostly International Compilation of Moodgadget artists. I’m psyched to see it come out finally.

Scott Walker
I’m watching the Scott Walker documentary. Really love this Camus quote on the back of Scott 4: “A man’s work is nothing but this slow trek to rediscover, through the detours of art, those two or three great and simple images in whose presence his heart first opened.”

Borges "Boast of Quietness"
Writings of light assault the darkness, more prodigious than meteors. The tall unknowable city takes over the countryside. Sure of my life and death, I observe the ambitious and would like to understand them. Their day is greedy as a lariat in the air. Their night is a rest from rage within steel, quick to attack. They speak of humanity. My humanity is in feeling we are all voices of the...

Boomkat Write-up
It’s like I paid this person to say these things: Daniel Johnson’s career in electronic music started with Bulbz, a record Daniel used to teach himself how to use the Logic sequencer software. He must have finished the manual by now, because here’s his debut full-length, Lazrus finds Johnson fulfilling a similar role to that of Deastro on his recent Ghostly International album,...

To Swift Mars EP out today
caleparks: It feels like I’ve been sitting on this for a while, but my new EP To Swift Mars hits stores today, August 4th via Polyvinyl. It was recorded last year in DC with fellow Aloha member TJ Lipple at the board, mixed in Brooklyn with Brian Jacobs from Apes And Androids and well, I reckon it’s my best solo record yet, by a long way. Purchase via Polyvinyl, iTunes, or at your local fine...

Lazrus Credits and Lyrics
When you buy the record digitally, the lyrics will show up on your little mp3 toys. We’re still looking for ways to get the credits out in non CD formats. For now: Lazrus Written and performed by Daniel. Trevor Naud played guitar on Hard Core, Goodbye Silhouette, Lex Luthr and Lazrus. Rodrigo Palma played bass guitar on Heart Of A Dog, Hard Core, Lex Luthr, Devil’s On Our Side,...

LAZRUS - Out Today
I started this blog over a year ago to document the making of a record. What ensued was bliss, beats, melodies and a lot of delays. I know I’ve said this before, but today it’s really true. The record is OUT! LAZRUS has come forth. Get it at iTunes while the getting’s good.

Sweating
sreakle: I picked the worst day to stay home sick. We don’t have air conditioning and it’s about 129 degrees and humid as hell. Sreakle keeps trying to snuggle with me and he’s making my fever worse and my room hotter. Fever-induced dreams are always interesting. I’ve been laying in bed all morning, in and out of sleep and dreaming of the following: ice cubes, re-upholstering chairs, Carl...

BULBZ EP out today →
It’s up and out. Finally. Three cover songs, Prince, Smokey, Kanye. For the very reasonable price of: you decide. So happy to be putting something out. It’s been, like, three years.
